Sambia, im südlichen Zentralafrika gelegen, ist durch eine Ausbuchtung des zairischen Territoriums nahezu zweigeteilt. Weiterhin grenzt Sambia an Simbabwe, Botswana, Angola, Tansania, Malawi und Mosambik, ist aber historisch am engsten mit Simbabwe im Süden verbunden.

Das Land wurde nach dem Fluß Sambesi benannt.

Stand and Sing of Zambia, Proud and Free oder Lumbanyeni Zambia (Steh auf und singe von Sambia, stolz und frei) ist die Nationalhymne Sambias. Sie hat einen Text auf Englisch und auf Bemba. Die Melodie ist die der Hymne Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika (Gott segne Afrika), die vom Südafrikaner Enoch Sontonga 1897 komponiert wurde. Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika ist die erste Strophe der Nationalhymne Südafrikas. Sie wurde 1964 nach der Unabhängigkeit Sambias angenommen.
